F A Q S

Q: Is Summer Camp mandatory for swim team members?

While attendance to Troy High School's July 2023 Summer swim camp is not mandatory, all returning swim team athletes are highly encouraged to enroll in Coach Driessen's intensive clinic.

Q: When does swim season start?

Swim and Dive are considered spring sports. Regular season begins the first Monday in February for both boys and girls.  Two team tryouts are held in November and December with results posted prior to winter break. Pre-season and Saturday practices start in January for the swim team and the dive program will resume at the start of the Regular season unless noted otherwise. To be eligible to practice and compete, the online athletic clearance process must be completed and approved by Troy’s Athletic Department prior to tryouts. Students must be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.5 GPA or higher to practice and / or compete throughout the season.

Q: I'm interested in joining, where do I sign-up?

Those interested in joining the Swim & Dive teams for Regular Season or Summer Camp should fill out an interest form that can be found on our Swim & Dive Registration page. By completing this form, your information will be added to our email list for future updates.

Q: Are there cuts on the swim and dive teams?

Yes. Everyone (including returning student-athletes) must try out each season and qualify to earn a spot on Troy High School’s swim and dive teams. Previous participation does not guarantee you a spot on your current level (i.e. Varsity, JV, or Frosh | Soph.) Tryouts allow the coaching staff to properly assess skillsets and determine what level is best for the team.

Q: How much experience is required to join the team?

Team members must be water safe and able to meet team standards outlined in team expectations set by the coaching staff.  Team members are required to attend full practices for the entire duration during the swim and dive season. While it is not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged for all returning swim and dive team members and prospects to attend summer camp, Saturday practices, and winter pre-season training when offered.

Q: Does the swim team train all year or just during swim season?

Regular Season practice begins the first Monday in February - six (6) days/week, 2-hours each day with 3K-7K days. Winter off-season practices are held during January - three (3) days/week, 2-hours each day with 4K-5K days. Saturday practices begin in December prior to tryouts (5K-10K days) and Summer Camp is held during July. Dive practice will commence during Regular Session.

Swim team practices are not scheduled on Staff Development Days and over Thanksgiving, Winter, or Spring breaks unless noted otherwise. Dive practice during these dates varies and attendance is optional when classes at Troy are not in session.

Q: Does the swim team focus on strength and conditioning training?

Coach Driessen has expressed interest in establishing dry-land strength and conditioning sessions. Information will be made available via email and online once plans have been determined and are finalized.

Q: Can athletes continue to train with a club team during spring swim season?

Team members are encouraged to train with a club team during non-season months.  Upon the approval of team coaches, athletes may train with their club during the Regular Season as well.

Q: Does the Troy High School Swim Team offer a Summer Camp program?

Athletes and prospects are encouraged to attend summer camp being held in July at Troy High School. This two-week program under the guidance of Coach Driessen will focus on endurance training, forming proper techniques, and improving existing skills needed to compete on the high school swim team level. Enrollment opens Spring 2023.

Q: What are the costs associated with joining the Swim & Dive program?

Troy Aquatics Booster Association is a non-profit organization responsible for funding the Water Polo teams, and Swim & Dive programs at Troy High School. Upon team acceptance to the Swim and Dive team, a financial contribution of $200 is requested and due at the time of regular season Registration. This tax-deductible donation can be paid via PayPal. 100% of your generous contribution goes directly to the Swim & Dive Team.

This amount covers per athlete:

Troy Aquatics Booster Association is a qualified 501(c) 3 entity EIN 30-0281785 ID # 27-2411704 and 100% of the donations collected go directly to running each aquatic team at Troy High School. Board meetings are held once a month and are open to parents and students interested in attending.

Q: My child played on the Water Polo team. Is it necessary for them to re-register again with Troy Aquatics and provide a contribution if they join the swim or dive team?

Yes, a new registration is required for each team your student-athlete plays on. Each team under the Troy Aquatics umbrella is determined and separately budgeted according to the actual cost for that season. Your contribution to the Swim & Dive  team during the registration period is fully-allotted for your athlete and the specific team in which your athlete is registering. Troy Aquatics is a non-profit organization, and each year, the requested contribution is carefully determined by actual costs from the previous year, and voted on by the board members.  It is important to note, the Swim and Dive programs are not funded by Troy High School or the FJUHSD. Troy High School’s Swim and Dive teams are fully-funded and made possible due to the donations collected during the program’s registration period. Without your generous contributions, these teams would not exist.

Q: Can additional gear and merchandise be purchased?

Yes, in addition to the team uniform supplied by Troy Aquatics, additional swimsuits, swim caps, and team merchandise can be purchased online at the Team Store. Team gear and spirit wear from our online store is encouraged, but not mandatory.

Q: Is it required for parents to Volunteer if their student is part of the team?

Yes. It is required that each family volunteer at least one (1) two-hour shift during home meets or sign-up to bring a food donation for the snack bar. Parents are also required to attend a mandatory team meeting which will be held at the discretion of the Boosters and Coaching Staff during the Registration Period.

We are always looking for parents and family members with photography and videography skills to capture our athletes during meets. If this is of interest, please email troyswimdive@gmail.com to let us know!
